An Evening with Michael Pollan: How To Change Your Mind

Join immersive journalist, psychonaut and bestselling author Michael Pollan, for an evening that will change the way you see food, drugs, and how the human and natural worlds intersect.

FOOD

What do you know about the history of our food? For instance, did you know that for way too long everyone (including children) in the West was getting buzzed morning, noon and night because alcohol was safer than water?

What about where your food comes from? Can you fathom the global journey its ingredients take? Do you know just how vast, complex, short-sighted and cruel the industrial farming industry can be?

Michael Pollan has written four best-selling books on these topics, including The Omnivore’s Dilemma and In Defense of Food, and he’ll dive into them on tour.

DRUGS

While he’s quickly become known as “the psychedelic guy” thanks to his hit Netflix show How to Change Your Mind, Michael’s view on drug use isn’t what you’d expect.

Yes, in the name of research (and fun) he’s taken magic mushrooms, LSD, ayahuasca, and even the smoked venom of the sonoran desert toad (aka 5-MeO-DMT), but he wants to make one thing clear:

Psychedelics aren’t just for festivals and warehouse parties - they are medicinal, and the most impactful way to use them is under professional supervision (not a guided trip with a shonky shaman).

On tour, Michael will explore how psychedelics can offer new ground from which to stand and take in reality, benefitting the lives of those living with depression, addiction, PTSD and beyond.

THE HUMAN AND NATURAL WORLDS

On tour, Michael will invite you to really consider our relationship with nature, and re-think what it looks like.

From questioning the dream of “a home with a well kept front lawn”, to the sexual politics of roses, he will show you the rhythms of our everyday engagement with the outdoors in all its glory and exasperation.

WHO IS MICHAEL POLLAN?

For more than thirty years, Michael Pollan has been writing books and articles about the places where the human and natural worlds intersect: on our plates, in our farms and gardens, and in our minds.

He’s been a contributing writer to the New York Times Magazine since 1987, with his writing receiving numerous awards (too many to list here!), in 2010 he was among Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world, and several of his books (including How to Change Your Mind, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, and Food Rules) have been immediate #1 New York Times bestsellers.

You might’ve also caught him on his Netflix shows Cooked or How to Change Your Mind, or online with Joe Rogan, Stephen Colbert and Bill Maher.
