AGING: YOUR DNA IS NOT YOUR DESTINY
Your DNA is not your destiny, and aging doesn’t need to be an eventuality we begrudgingly accept. We can get in front of it, control it; steer the ship towards death rather than be led by the hand.
Professor David Sinclair is here to show you that “if we studied aging as a disease in its own right, and really sought to understand its mechanics, we could not only treat it, but beat it. All of us could live to be 150 and die gracefully.”
For most of us, the end of our lives will come with the long and drawn out prelude of old age. It’s a process that we all accept is going to f*cking suck, with our bodies and minds slowly failing us, and eventually taking away our independence.
In the past, this grim reality was the perfect pitch for snake-oil salesmen peddling miracle elixirs that promised a long life with great health. Today, those peddlers still exist, setting up shop on the internet, sadly drawing in crowds of desperate people with click-bait titles and fake testimonials.
But that dream of a pill or tonic that reverses the effects of aging is still worth pursuing, right? Science has opened the doors to dramatically increased life expectancies, the curing and management of fatal diseases – we even put a MAN ON THE MOON! So, why is it crazy to think we can find a solution to aging?
Professor David Sinclair thinks it’s far from madness. In fact, he’s been researching it for years and has uncovered potentially viable methods of managing old age.
IN-DEPTH DISCUSSION + AUDIENCE Q&A
David is an Aussie-born professor in the Department of Genetics, and co-director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of aging, at Harvard Medical School. He’s also the co-founder of several biotechnology companies (including Life Biosciences and Sirtris), the co-founder and co-chief editor of the journal ‘Aging’, the inventor of 35 patents, and to top it off, Time Magazine ranked him as one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” in 2014 and in their “Top 50 in Healthcare” list in 2018! Most people will recognise him from his hugely successful book ‘Lifespan: Why We Age – and Why We Don’t Have To’ – a revelation that everything we think we know about aging is wrong.
David contends that “If we studied aging as a disease in its own right, and really sought to understand its mechanics, we could not only treat it, but beat it. All of us could live to be 150 and die gracefully.” You’d think that considering aging as a standalone disease wouldn’t be so controversial, but no government in the world has endorsed this definition yet!
In spite of this, David’s belief in the idea runs so deep that he’s currently developing medicines that enable people to live healthier for longer, using himself as the subject to test them on. So far his results are remarkable, with blood tests showing his biological age is much lower than his real one. At this event David will be sharing the results of his experiments, along with:
- The surprising, scientifically-proven methods that can help all of us live younger for longer;
- Aging reset – the reversal of aging and restoration of vision;
- Longevity genes and Hormesis – what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger;
- The risks and benefits a longer lifespan affords us personally, for society as a whole, and for our planet.
